Mastic Snails
The Mastic Snails farm, established in June 2013, specializes in breeding the Helix Aspersa Maxima and Muller snail species, which are well-suited for indoor cultivation. These snails are raised on a diet consisting of corn, barley, soy, cereals, and calcium. During spring, the snails gradually emerge from hibernation, marking the beginning of the fattening season. From March to October, the snails lay eggs multiple times, with each clutch containing 80 to 120 eggs. Harvesting by hand starts in late August and continues until October. Within 15 days of being laid, the eggs hatch into snails, which reach their full size in approximately 3.5 to 4 months. The farm’s maximum annual production capacity is 7.5 tons. The snails are either consumed fresh or processed to meet the demands of both domestic and international markets. Given the global demand for snails surpassing the supply from natural sources or farming, there is a constant need to fulfill this requirement.

Visitors will witness the production of snails, from their birth to their standardization in prepared foods.
The ARIOUSIOS Winery is located in the settlement of Egrigoros in the N.W. Chios, about 59 km from Chios city, built in a privileged position overlooking the vast Aegean. It can be visited and tastings of the wines produced are organized in its facilities. The unique red varieties Chiotiko Krasero and Agiannitis and the Aegean white Assyrtiko and Athiri are cultivated in the vineyards.
The winery is officially open to the public.
The visitor can visit the wine production site, the oak barrel cellars, watch audiovisual documentary about the history of the area and the wine and taste the wines among a small collection of traditional agricultural tools and objects.
The facilities are accessible to people with disabilities.
We are organizing wine tourism activities and tastings of our wines at the facilities (by appointment).
The visit to the winery can be combined with organized hiking routes around the area of Amani in the NW Chios. Also, with a visit to the Thermal Baths of Agiasmata and the cave of Agio Gala.
